Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

Finally! The highly anticipated sequel to the high-action Avengers. One of the first opening scenes features the Avengers in a slow-motion single shot as they dive to fight Hydra. It was this shot that caused everyone in my theater (including me) to scream in excitement and clap. We knew our heroes were back together once again to fight, to avenge. The story continues with the team fighting Hydra agents in order to retrieve Loki's staff (which was last seen in the post-credits of Winter Soldier). Along the way, two highly-enhanced individuals, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, have their fair share of facing off the Avengers before letting them have the staff. Stark becomes aware of its power and works with Banner to create a defense protocol called Ultron. However, Ultron realizes through history that the human race and the Avengers are their own destruction and the best way to evolve is through extinction. The film is packed with action scenes that show off the heroes' skills and create an in-depth personality to each character. We understand they are our heroes and we look to them for hope, but this film helps us realize they make mistakes as well and learn from them.

A phrase I've said before in a previous review and is still true is "a movie is only as good as it's villain." Ultron has everything that makes a villain exciting. He has motivation for his evil plan, sassy humor, and, visually, a cool robotic design. His ultimate plan is wipe out the human race so metal may rule the planet. A good point he brings up is "confusing

peace with silence." He knows humans are always constantly starting wars and that's what will lead to their downfall. No matter how good their intentions of maintaining peace it can't be achieved without some kind of conflict involved. Ultron creates a challenge for the Avengers by getting in their minds and having them fight one another. Even his evil plan of lifting Sokovia in the air and dropping it like a meteor, is filled with a nail-bitting experience. How will the Avengers overcome this challenge? Will they let the lives of a few civilians perish for the human race is live? It's an event that is assisted with the latest Avengers member: Vision. Originally the character was created to become Ultron's ultimate life form, but the Avengers take control of the android and equip him with the mind stone. Vision is a powerful character and, based on his knowledge, believes the human race can redeem themselves for the better. The mind stone comes from Loki's staff which explains why it has mind-controlling powers. Also, it is one of the six infinity stones. Not only does it affirm the infinity stone storyline, but it leaves Vision as a target for the future.

The ultimate Easter egg is it's tie in to Agents of Shield. In the show, an inhuman has the power to see into the future and predicts the destruction of Sokovia and its destruction. Plus, Phil Coulson has a talk with Maria Hill about the location of the Loki's staff. This leads up to the opening scenes of Age of Ultron. As if you couldn't get more excited of the film, there's even more suspense to what might occur in the film. Another Easter Egg is the introduction of Wakanda. It is the fictional country that is controlled by the Black Panther. Even though the location has a small role in the film, the events that occur lead to future tie-ins with the rest of the MCU. Joss Whedon's sequel definitely takes a darker tone than its predecessor, but it sets the mood for future Marvel films and the events that take place afterwards.

Final Score: 9/10

An exciting film that delivers a near-perfection experience. It leaves one glued to the seats and makes you want more from the MCU. Filled with fun, action, and excitement, what more can you want from a blockbuster?
