Guardians of the Galaxy is a film that proves Marvel can make success out of nothing. When you hear about a Marvel team I am sure this group of misfits isn't the first thought to comes to mind. The team consists of Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord), Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. Each member is a wanted criminal with a history of getting into misendeavors. Saving the galaxy isn't exactly the priority on their list, but if it pays it sure can be. Every little detail of the film is what makes it a huge box-office success. It is entertaining for all ages from the music to the visuals to the characters. It is the perfect mix of humor, action, and sentiment. Their journey starts off with each member wanting to kill or steal from one another. It's through heartbreak and loss, though, they learn to put their differences aside to defeat a common enemy: Ronan. What makes this movie powerful is the depth and connection James Gunn creates to make each character lovable. Each character has a dark past they hide because they believe it's what holds them back. Only after they reveal their story do they move forward as a team and defeat their demons. Who knew we could fall for a tree that literally says only three words throughout the entire film.

Aspects that stands off are the soundtrack & visuals. The film features 80's music that bring a vibrant mood to the scenes. Numerous pop culture references are mentioned, particularly from Quill, to add humor. Somewhere, far in the universe, a small alien race knows Kevin Bacon as a hero. From the first scene we know we are on a fun adventure with Star-Lord showing off his moves to "Come and Get Your Love." Even at the brink of total destruction he still has the nerve to challenge Ronan to a dance-off. The visuals also create breath-taking scenes. Two scenes that stick out are when they break out of jail and make a stand against Ronan's fleet. It's these two parts we see progression as a team and their skills. The jail-breaking scene shows what each character is capable of and why they are perfect together. Rocket is the brains, Groot is the team's muscle, and the rest improvise till they get what they want. The stand against Ronan's fleet shows firepower from Xander and the Ravagers. The flight action scenes leave the audience with an awe-inspiring experience.

The biggest take away is its connection to the rest of the MCU. The Guardians' biggest challenge is retrieving the infinity stone from Ronan. The stone has the power to wipe out anything or anyone from existence. The Collector is reintroduced to explain the infinity stones and identify the item as the power stone. Also, Thanos reappears and shows his ambition of collecting all six stones. Not only is Marvel developing a spotlight for heroes, but also creating a long-term vision. It wants to create this infinity stone storyline to connect all of its heroes. This is obvious when the Collector explains the power each stone and what happens when they are together. Also, items from previous Marvel films, such as the Tesseract & the Aether, are shown for audiences to grasp the relations.

Final Score: 10/10

A movie so enjoyable it can be watched numerous times without losing its flavor. Everything Marvel touches becomes gold.
