Life in Music

Music has always been apart of my life. It was around from when I was a kid and dancing to Selena with my mom to middle school as I jammed out to Fall Out Boy and now in present-day as I study audio production. Anyone who listens to music has a story to tell for why they like certain artists and songs. This could be a sense of nostalgia or relaxation, but overall it's a feeling of enjoyment. Here are my top four favorite artists and my stories.

When Lady Gaga first entered the music scene I instantly fell for her. Her pop-electro sound is an awesome beat to dance to and lyrics are inspriring. Not only does she create genuine music but also inspires people through their creativity. I credit her for developing a sense of individualism and fighting issues that are worth the struggle. I have seen her three times in concert and she blows my mind everytime.

When I first discovered Rise Against in 2007 I had no idea how much they would end up changing my life. Their music tackles issues such as bullying, animal rights, and capitalism. Everything I believe and agree with can be translated through their music. The biggest influence they had over me was in high school with their song "Make It Stop." It is a song that calls to stop for bullying and it couldn't have came in a more perfect time when I needed it.

Shakira is an artist that mixes both of my cultures, Latino and American, into her music. Her songs are done both in Spanish and English; yet, they have an authentic sound attached. When the song "Waka Waka" was released as the anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup it combined many elements: my love for soccer, a soothing rhythm, and Shakira.

The band I can identify as my first favorite is without Green Day. Every member plays a crucial role in creating amazing music. Tre Cool on drums can make the song energetic or relaxing while the bassist, Mike Drint, creates a rocking atmosphere. However, I have to give a lot of credit to Billie Joe Armstrong. His raspy voice pulls me into the song and makes me soak up every lyric. The album I was first introduced, American Idiot, addresses problems with Americans and the Iraq War. The theme drew me into their music and there was no looking back.

Each artist I mentioned can tell my story through their music. By listening to the lyrics or sound one can understand my ideas and taste. Everyone has a story to tell and music can be a tool to help express that voice.
